Let your mind grow into the ground,
the tips of your hair will be roots.
Close your eyes,
sink into dirt,
welcome to your return.
Drop out
of this endless ratrace.
Drop out,
lest your essence fades.
Let your mind grow into the ground,
inhale the soil and leaves.
Feel like slip out of your veins,
return to rocks and the trees.
Let your mind grow into the ground,
replace your plasma with mud.
Close your eyes,
sink into dirt,
return to where you came from.
Release
yourself from this prison
of this world and its people.
Let your mind grow into the ground,
take your last breath and dive…
NOW ROT
Decay.
Absorb.
Rot.
The fire I imbibe,
does not just keep me warm.
The fire I imbibe,
gives me life.
Old growth goes deep.
Coals hold their true heat.
Stones roll down peaks.
My bones often speak.
If this is where I must stay
for now I’ll grow and cultivate.
If this is where I must stay
then I will grow and overtake.
Bloom. Bloom. Bloom. Bloom.
Reclaim and bloom.
about
“Reclaim”, the long anticipated debut EP from Vermont’s own SACHEM is as heavy and brooding as the ancient hills from where the band resides. Four all enveloping songs take you on a journey from the tips of shrouded peaks to the depths of deep stone fissures. “Reclaim” is both a lament for a changing, impermanent world and a celebration of life reborn from decay and rot. This EP is a call to your mind and senses from a primal, feral place, beckoning it down into full submersion. Engineered in Burlington, Vermont by Urian Hackney (Rough Francis), Sachem’s latest offering is a natural progression from the 2017 highly received demo cassette. Utilizing the full range of gear and precise detail given to the construction of his studio, the Box, Hackey facilitated the crafting of what is sure to become a staple of Vermont heavy music history. Drummer Elliot Lester pounds out track after track of lumbering rhythms, pulling the listener into a meditative trance that is perfectly grounded by the gritty rumbling of bassist Brett Smith’s steady, anchoring lines. Fire and ice coalesce the mix with Andrew Glynn’s roaring guitars to form a force capable of inducing cave ins and rock slides. Sachem draws inspiration from classic Pacific Northwestern acts such as the Melvins, Neurosis and Yob, as well as stalwart East Coast bands like Isis and Warhorse to create their own take on something tried and true; pure Vermont sludge. Eastern mountain doom. With the weight of infinite granite and the volume of thunder at elevation, Sachem’s “Reclaim” stands as a monument to the inevitable cycles that will one day take us all. Reclaim and Bloom.
